I've found that figuring out how your work happens and doing everything you can to support that is often more effective than trying to change how your work happens. Not that you can't employ both strategies – I'm certainly deviated from my standard operating procedures in designating time every morning to work on a single project and sticking with it through to completion – but it's kinda like the paradox of breaking all the rules in writing. Like, you can use all the passive verbs and adjectives you want, so long as you know how they function and can use that function to build the effect you want to convey. You just have to know the rules before you can break them.
