Here is a milestone which may only have meaning to me.

A while ago, I accidentally* started on a Detroit: Become Human reboot-style AU (which I cleverly titled Detroit: Reboot), which project I think only rionaleonhart actually knows anything about, and storyinmypocket and sholio may have heard me mention off and on. Anyway, it ballooned to ridiculous size in ways I don't fully understand, and then I got distracted by other things.

*I accidentally 2.9 MB of fanfiction... is this dangerous?

Primary among those other things was a Red Dead Redemption 2 fic which I thought I could knock out in 30-40k (HA... HA HA... Ha ha hah haaaaaaaugh... •sob•), which, as you may have guessed if you know me, I was not able to complete in 30-40k.

Anyway, I didn't notice this last night when I was finishing up my writing and heading for bed, but my unfinished RDR2 fic finally exceeded the length of my unfinished D:BH fic! I wasn't actually sure that would ever happen. Also: what the fuck.

(For the record, the "of 300,000" is not an actual aspirational goal. 300,000 words was a placeholder I put in because I like seeing the progress bar go up, and if you meet the goal, it just stays full and green and there's no visible progress. I figured that 300,000 was a nice, safe, high number that I would not actually ever reach. I am now figuring that I'm probably going to have to change it on one or both of these projects if I want to keep watching the bar move.)

I do all my writing these days in Scrivener, which is a program I just absolutely adore for its ability to organize things in a detailed and granular fashion. Its wordcount feature also keeps track of how much I've written total versus how much I've written in a day (or in a session, defined as "until I hit the reset button", which is usually "between when I wake up and when I go to sleep" and often overlaps one calendar day), which I find really nice.

I wrote 90K in September and most of it is fanfic. Is there a support group for this kind of thing?!

I'm fairly certain that's more than I've written, this month alone. At least I'm in good company. I... I think we may need to be our own support group. Except we're going to be a "support in even more ridiculous fanfic output" group and not a "support in AUGH WHAT JUST HAPPENED" group.

Yeah, I feel as if it would end up being the kind of support group that would inspire us to ever new heights of hilariously indulgent fanfic output as opposed to, say, channeling that writing urge into something we're willing to publicly admit we wrote. XDD

I keep being like, "I'm going to split my attention today between original fic and fanfic!" And then I look up and it's one in the morning and I have a thousand words of dysfunctional cowboys and zero words of dysfunctional anyone else. And then I have to go to sleep.

We'll never learn.
